Ferguson fallout: Obama opens door to \u2018reexamining\u2019 military gear program for local police | Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\nIn my very cynical mind, this is a matter of Obama realizing that this equipment is being used against the wrong people. \u00a0If he even bothered<\/em> to think it through, I think he was more expecting it to be used to control or intimidate the general public. \u00a0More important, I think he realized that he doesn’t have as much control over how this gear is used than he thought. \u00a0The police here didn’t\u00a0ask<\/em> permission, or even notify, the government that this gear was rolling out.<\/p>\nBeing here in St. Louis, \u00a0I’ve had an opportunity to watch the practical results of police “militarization.” \u00a0Though my Libertarian leanings oppose it, the reality is that it is likely irrelevant. \u00a0I’m going to have to devote a separate editorial to that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
