Not only do we need to understand women’s concerns, we need to point out that something like this happens every time the federal government tries to solve local problems. The first step in solving the problems facing women is to give Conservatives – not necessarily Republicans, but Conservatives (I’ve known plenty of Democrats that were several steps to the right of some Republicans) – the power to dismantle the institutional structures that suppress women’s interests.
Call me old fashioned if you wish, but unlike progressives, I consider the worth of women to be much more than simply defined by their sexual activity. Unlike progressives, I think there is more to women than government funded boob-jobs and birth control.
